For targeted monitoring and control of red palm weevil

Dryguard is designed to improve the effectiveness of mass trapping against the red palm weevil, Rhynchophorus ferrugineus. The device, when used in combination with the pheromone and kairomone attractant, can effectively monitor and assist in population control. Dryguard does not require liquid in large volumes, effectively reducing the maintenance requirements which are typical for wet traps.

Russell IPM’s Dryguard trap is designed to make mass trapping or monitoring of date palm pests simple and efficient. The special funnel entrance maximises red palm weevil catch and prevents escape. In addition, the traps rough outer surface is designed to mimic the texture of the palm trunk, further enhancing weevil capture. The trap comprises four side windows and four lid entry points to increase surface area for entry.

The simple and compact device is able to reduce the labour costs associated with traditional wet red palm weevil bucket traps.

Dryguard captures double the number of red palm weevils when compared to wet traps and requires no maintenance or cleaning for 6 weeks. It is therefore a highly attractive solution for large contractors and commercial farms. The trap is compatible for use with a range of red palm weevil attractive substances including pheromones and kairomones, such as Rhylure from Russell IPM.
