Why choose this Trap?
Roller traps are used for trapping and monitoring spotted wing drosophila, Drosophila suzukii, leaf hoppers and gall midges, such as Dasineura oxycoccana. These pests are drawn to the Optiroll’s red colour and stick to its adhesive surface. Trap catch can be enhanced by combining the roller traps with pheromone lures and attractants, such as the spotted wing drosophila dry lure and gall midge pheromones. Detecting invasions early and precision monitoring of populations are crucial parts of integrated pest management (IPM) programmes.
Optiroll Red is used in:
- fruit crops, such as raspberries, strawberries and blueberries
- vegetable crops, such as sweet pepper
Effective Monitoring
Apply the traps from planting for best effect. Hang the roller traps between greenhouse posts throughout the crop with extra traps around entrances. The best application height will vary according to the target pest(s) and crop(s). Optiroll is safe to use with bumblebee or honeybee pollination and with the release of natural enemies where biological control programmes are used. Optiroll red traps are effective monitoring tools on their own, and are also suitable for mass trapping and as part of a wider pest management programme.
Use in blueberry crops. Hang the roller traps between greenhouse posts throughout the crop from planting for the best effect. Place the rolls with the base of the trap about 20cm above the ground (or 20 cm above the top of the pot in pot-grown blueberry).
