Raspberry Beetle Trap

Raspberry Beetle Traps are used to monitor and trap the raspberry beetle, Byturus tomentosus, which can cause extensive damage in raspberry, blackberry and loganberry crops.  Combine the traps with attractant raspberry beetle lures. The beetles are attracted to the lures and to the white colour of the cross vanes which resemble raspberry flowers.  The beetles fly into the cross vane and fall into the funnel and bucket below, which is filled with soapy water to prevent their escape.

Start trapping 4-6 weeks before first flower. Hang the traps about 1m above ground, so that the traps are clearly visible to the beetles, using a trap density of one per 250m2.  Traps are used to help improve the timing of control treatments. The damage threshold for treatment is 5-10 raspberry beetles per trap per week in the period from beetle emergence until onset of first flowering. Replace the attractant lure after 6 weeks to maintain attraction.
